A native of Georgetown, Illinois, Commander Ewing received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps and graduated from the University of Illinois in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
At sea, CDR Ewing served as 1st Lieutenant aboard USS Estocin (FFG-15), as Main Propulsion Assistant aboard USS Vincennes (CG-49), as Chief Engineer aboard USS Elrod (FFG-55), as Training Officer aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), as Deputy Current Operations with Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group FIVE, as Flag Secretary, Deputy N7 and Lead Exercise Planner with Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO, as Damage Control Assistant aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), as Deputy N4/Training and Readiness Officer with Commander, Carrier Strike Group FIVE / Commander, Task Force 70.  He is currently serving as Chief Staff Officer with Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN.
Ashore, CDR Ewing served as the Installation Commanding Officer of Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC – the only U.S. Navy base in mainland Asia) and as Division Officer Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer Command.
CDR Ewing earned a Master’s Degree in National Security Strategic Studies from the U.S. Navy War College.
CDR Ewing was awarded the FY14 Commander, Naval Surface Forces Atlantic Surface Warfare Officer of the Year award.  Other personal decorations include the Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals. However, he is most proud of his unit and campaign awards because of the teamwork they represent.
