A native of Gig Harbor, Washington, Commander Austin Duff commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 2001 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering in 2001 from Washington State University. Duff earned a master’s degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University and completed his Joint Professional Military Education through the Naval War College. 

At sea, Duff served as strike officer and first lieutenant aboard USS McCampbell (DDG 85); reactor propulsion division officer aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68); operations officer aboard USS Ingraham (FFG 61); commanding officer of PC Crew Charlie; commanding officer of USS Tempest (PC 2); commanding officer of USS Hurricane (PC 3); commanding officer of USS Firebolt (PC 10); and reactor electrical assistant aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73). His most recent assignment was as the executive officer of USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Blue Crew.
Ashore, he served as division director, enlisted reactor principles division, Naval Nuclear Power Training Command; and as test and assessments planner for Integrated Air and Missile Defense, U.S. European Command.  Duff currently serves as the commanding officer of USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Blue Crew.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit citations and campaign medals.
