LCDR Jon R. Heil

Past Chief Staff Officer, Surface Division ELEVEN (SURFACEDIV 11)

28 August 2019 A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Lt. Cmdr. Heil graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems where he received his commission through ROTC.
                  
His operational tours include serving as Electrical Officer and Boarding Officer aboard USS Yorktown (CG 48); Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer aboard USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer from 2004 to 2006; Chief Engineer aboard USS Howard (DDG 83) from 2011 to 2013.
                   
Ashore, Heil served as the Electronic Warfare Officer under Task Force Tarawa and 2nd Recon from 2006-2007.  Heil transferred to Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit ONE as the Officer in Charge of the Combatant Craft Unit until 2010 and was then assigned to Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center San Diego as an instructor for the SSDS and Harpoon weapon systems. He also served as the Officer in Charge of Surface Warfare Mission Package Detachment FOUR for Littoral Combat Ship Squadron ONE in San Diego from 2013 to 2015.   Heil transferred to Marine Corps University Command and Staff College where he earned his Masters of Military Studies degree in 2016. After graduation he assumed the role as Topside Warfare Director of Afloat Training Group Mayport, FL until 2018 when he was assigned to COMNAVSURFPAC as Operations Officer for the TYCOM Material Inspection Team.
 
His current assignment is chief of staff officer for Surface Division Eleven.
 
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various service campaign and unit decorations.
