Captain DeVore received his commission and a B.S. in Chemistry Education from Purdue University in 1995. He received Masters degrees from Georgetown University in 2002 and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 2006.

At-sea assignments include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer in USS TAYLOR (FFG 50), Fire Control Officer in USS CARNEY (DDG 64), Operations Officer in USS MAHAN (DDG 72), Commanding Officer of Patrol Coastal Crew FOXTROT while embarked in USS TYPHOON (PC 5) and USS HURRICANE (PC 3), and Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS STETHEM (DDG 63).  He most recently completed a tour as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of USS NEW YORK (LPD 21).
 
Shore-duty assignments include two tours in the Surface Distribution Division of the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Executive Assistant to the Director, Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems Directorate (J6), U.S. Joint Forces Command, in Norfolk, Virginia and Deputy for Operations Maintenance and Modernization for the Director, Surface Warfare (N96) of the OPNAV Staff.  He also completed student tours under the Navy's Pol-Mil Masters program at Georgetown University and at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia.
