Commander Ahmanson is from Orlando, Florida, and holds a bachelor degree in Aviation Business Administration from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.  He received his commission from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida in February 2002.

In March 2004, he reported to “The Maulers” of SEA CONTROL SQUADRON 32 (VS-32) located in Jacksonville, FL, where he flew missions in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM while deployed onboard the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65).

In July 2007, he reported to PATROL SQUADRON THIRTY (VP-30) for transition training in the P-3C Orion. 
In May 2008, he reported to “The Fighting Marlins” of PATROL SQUADRON FORTY (VP-40) where he deployed to the FIFTH and SIXTH FLEET areas of operations in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. 

In March of 2012, he reported to Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Force Seventh Fleet in Okinawa, Japan as a Task Group Watch Officer. 
In August 2013, CDR Ahmanson reported to the “Grey Knights” of PATROL SQUADRON FORTY-SIX (VP-46) for his Department Head tour.  He completed two deployments, including the first tri-site P-3C deployment supporting FIFTH, SIXTH, and SEVENTH Fleet tasking.

In July 2016, he reported to the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) as the Air and Space Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Officer for the Capability and Resource Integration Directorate (J8). He specialized in the advocacy for space based missile warning systems, and qualified as a Chief of Operations Watch Officer in the Global Operations Center.
 
CDR Ahmanson's awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (3), and various campaign and service medals.
