Mr. Steve Mucklow assumed the duties of the Executive Director for Commander, Naval Surface Force, and U.S. Pacific Fleet in July 2021.  Mr. Mucklow directly supports the Commander, Naval Surface Forces who is responsible for surface ships and Sailors throughout the U.S. Navy.
 
Prior to his role as Executive Director, Mr. Mucklow supported NAVSEA/SEA 21 in support of surface ship maintenance and modernization, and was subsequently selected for federal service, serving as Special Assistant to the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense Integration.  In April 2019 he reported to Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet as Deputy, Commander’s Action Group.
 
Mr. Mucklow served on active duty from 1986 to 2016 as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), retiring as a Captain after 30 years of service.  While on active duty, Mr. Mucklow served at all levels of responsibility afloat including SWO Division Officer, Department Head, Commanding Officer and Major Command, and ashore in Post Major Command.  His command tours included USS CORMORANT from 2000-2001; USS CUSHING from 2004-2005, assigned to Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan, deploying to the FIFTH Fleet Area of Operations and serving as Scene of Action Commander for Critical Infrastructure Protection; and Commander and Deputy Commander Mine Countermeasures Squadron THREE where he directed the short notice lift of four mine countermeasures ships to U.S. FIFTH Fleet in support of U.S. Central Command requirements.
 
Additional operational commands include serving as the Operations Officer of Amphibious Squadron and Carrier Strike Group staffs, and in the Operations and Plans directorate of the U.S. SEVENTH Fleet.  He also served in multiple joint duty assignments at U.S. Central Command, U.S. Northern Command, and U.S. Joint Forces Command.  His duties included serving as Chief of Plans and Joint Team Leader at U.S. Central Command for the Department of Defense’s highest priority contingency plan.
 
Mr. Mucklow grew up in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, and graduated in 1986 from the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College with a Master’s Degree in Administration from Central Michigan University, and the U.S. Marines Corps School of Advanced Warfighting.
