CDR Michael Beer

Past Executive Officer, USS Chafee (DDG 90)

05 April 2022 Commander Michael Beer is a native of Somerset, Pennsylvania and is a 2005 graduate of Villanova University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He also holds a master’s degree in Military History from Norwich University and a master’s degree in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. 

Commander Beer has served in a diverse range of sea and shore assignments. As a surface warfare officer, his service at sea includes a Division Officer tour in USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), Weapons and Executive Officer in Patrol Coastal Crew Bravo, Operations Officer in USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) and the Exercises and Engagements Officer in Destroyer Squadron 15 (CDS 15). He has made multiple deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, Middle East, and Western Pacific.

Commander Beer’s shore tours include Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Field Operations Officer in U.S. Sixth Fleet, Maritime Operations Center Executive Officer for U.S. Sixth Fleet and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander, U.S. Sixth Fleet, Deputy Executive Assistant to the Director, Navy Staff, and Deputy Director of the Commander’s Action Group for the Commander of Allied Joint Forces Command Naples and Commander, Naval Forces Europe/Africa.

His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy Achievement Medal (2), and various unit, service and campaign awards.
