SASEBO, Japan (NNS) -- The forward-deployed guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67) held a change of command ceremony in port Sasebo, Japan, on December 7, 2019.
Capt. “Bo” Johns was relieved as Shiloh’s commanding officer by Capt. Sharif Calfee in a formal ceremony before the ship’s crew.
“I am honored to have worked alongside the incredible Sailors of Shiloh,” said Johns. “Their hard work and dedication have improved the ship’s readiness, and I am confident they will continue to contribute to the Navy’s mission in 7th Fleet.”
Johns’ next assignment will be as the Chief of Staff for Commander, Task Force 70, forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, which has operational control of the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, and all independently deployed cruisers and destroyers that deploy or transit through the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
“I am extremely excited to return to FDNF and assume command of such a competent warfighting team,” said Calfee. “I want to extend my sincere thanks to Capt. Johns for his leadership, and I look forward to upholding his legacy.”
Calfee’s previous assignment was as a Federal Executive Fellow in National Security at the DC-based think tank, Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, where he conducted independent research dealing with national security and public policy. He previously commanded USS McCampbell (DDG 85), also forward-deployed in Yokosuka from mid-2013 to Dec 2014.
