LCDR Sylla enlisted in the Navy in May 1996 and attended Gas Turbine “A” school in Great Lakes, IL. He received his commission via the LDO/CWO Program in March 2007.

At sea assignments include Maintenance Person and Workcenter Supervisor in USS PAUL F. FOSTER (DD 964), MP Division Leading Chief Petty Officer in USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101), Main Propulsion Assistant in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89), Electrical Officer in USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) and Chief Engineer in USS ASHLAND (LSD 48).

Shore assignments include Leading Petty Officer and LCPO for the Gas Turbine Hotplant (GL 47) Service School Command Great Lakes, Engineering Readiness Officer for COMDESRON 15 in FDNF Japan and Engineer Officer for the Afloat Training Group Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan.

He holds a Bachelor in Electronic Systems Technology from Southern Illinois University and a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University.

LCDR Sylla’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (5), the Navy Achievement Medal (5) as well as various other campaign and unit awards.
