Hailing from St. Rose, Louisiana, Master Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Auffenberg graduated boot camp in July 1997 from Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. His first sea tour was onboard USS ELLIOT (DD-967) from December 1998 through January 2003 as a Tomahawk maintenance man working all the way to Work Center Supervisor and Assistant Engagement Control Officer. He completed two work-up cycles and two 5th fleet deployments supporting the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Enduring Freedom. After graduating Basic Instructor School in San Diego, California, he reported to Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific in Point Loma, California in February 1998 as an Advance Tomahawk Weapon System Instructor.
He achieved his Master Training Specialist and a dual associate’s degree from Coast Line Community College in Advance Electronics and Technical Education. Upon his transfer in August of 2006, he reported to Afloat Planning Systems Detachment Pacific in Camp Smith, Hawaii. He served there supporting the deployments of the Nimitz and Ronald Reagan Strike Group while operating in the 7th and 5th fleet area of responsibilities. He selected to the Rank of Chief Petty Officer in 2008, and transferred to the Pre-commissioning Detachment of USS SPRUANCE (DDG-111) on April 2009. He performed the duties of Officer in Charge, Command Chief, Departmental and Divisional Leading Chief Petty Officer, and Senior Enlisted Watchbill Coordinator. In 2015, he was advanced to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He transferred in June 2017, completing three training cycles, and two Seventh Fleet deployments. In July 2017 reported to Destroyer Squadron Twenty-One as the Senior Enlisted for Combat Systems and on October 19, 2018, started serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor. In 2019, he selected to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
Personal decorations include two Navy Commendation Medals, Five Navy Achievement Medals and a Military Outstanding Volunteering Service Medal.
