Cmdr. Michael Tyree, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was commissioned in May 2004. He holds a Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., as well as Joint Professional Military Education (Phase I) and earned the Information Warfare subspecialty code.

At sea, Tyree served division officer tours on USS Vicksburg (CG 69) as the Auxiliaries Officer and Damage Control Assistant and Pre-Commissioning Unit Independence (LCS 2) Gold crew as the Main Propulsion Assistant. He served as Combat Systems Officer on USS De Wert (FFG 45) until her decommissioning. He commanded USS Chief (MCM 14) forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan. Tyree’s previous tour was as the executive officer and commanding officer of LCS Crew 209 aboard USS Montgomery (LCS 8) and USS Omaha (LCS 12).

Ashore, Tyree served as the Director of Capabilities for the Cyber National Mission Force, at U.S. Cyber Command.

Tyree is the commanding officer of Pre-Commissioning Unit Canberra (LCS 30).

His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and numerous other personal, unit, and campaign awards.
