SOUTH CHINA SEA - Cmdr. Ryan T. Easterday, commanding officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) observes from the bridge wing as the ship sails in formation with the JS Kirisame (DD 104) of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, and the HMAS Arunta (FFH 151) of the Royal Australian Navy while conducting integrated maritime security operations. McCain is assigned to Destroyer Squadron Fifteen (DESRON 15), the Navy’s largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force.
