Commander Dan Kohlbeck is a native of Bremerton, WA. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Washington and was commissioned through the NROTC Program in 2006 as a Surface Warfare Officer. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. While at the Naval War College he participated in the Halsey Alfa East Asia Advanced Research Program.
At sea he served as the CIC Officer, Communications Officer, and later Training Officers via the Fleet-Up program onboard USS MUSTIN (DDG-89). During his department head tours, he served as the Chief Engineer onboard USS RUSSELL (DDG-59) and Operations Officer onboard USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). Following his department head tours, he served as the Damage Control Assistant onboard USS ESSEX (LHD-2) where he conducted the first ever CONUS-based F-35 combat deployment to the FIFTH Fleet AOR.
Ashore, he served as Training Liaison Officer, Tomahawk Lead, and Combat Systems Officer at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal as well as various unit and campaign awards.
