Cmdr. Spike Lamson is a native of Port Arthur, Texas. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography in 2005. He earned a Master of Science in Geosciences at Texas A&M University in 2012. At sea, he served as the Auxiliaries Officer aboard USS Tarawa (LHA 1); Training Officer aboard USS Halsey (DDG 97); Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Preble (DDG 88); and Executive Officer aboard USS Lake Erie (CG 70).

Ashore, he served as an Instructor of Naval Science at Texas A&M University, and as Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) at Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) headquarters.

His current assignment is the Commanding Officer, USS Coronado (LCS 4). His decorations include the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, three Battle Effectiveness (Battle “E”) awards, and various personal, service and campaign awards.
