Chief Engineer Briggs is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and a 2005 Summa Cum Laude graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering and Shipyard Management. He also holds a Graduate Diploma from the US Army Command and General Staff College.
Chief Engineer Briggs has been sailing with Military Sealift Command since 2005. His recent afloat assignments have included: Chief Engineer, USNS SACAGAWEA (T-AKE 2); Chief Engineer, USNS JOSHUA HUMPHREYS (T-AO 188); Chief Engineer, USNS SUPPLY (T-AOE 6); and Chief Engineer, USS LEWIS B PULLER (ESB 3).
Chief Engineer Briggs has also worked ashore as an Operations Engineer at Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant. He is currently commissioned in the Navy Reserve as a CDR in the Strategic Sealift Officer program.
