CDR Tim Barry, from Buffalo, New York, is a 2004 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, with a B. A. in History. He also holds a Master's Degree in History from San Diego State University, and received a Joint Professional Military Education Phase One Certification from the Naval War College Fleet Seminar Program.
CDR Barry enlisted in the US Navy in 2005 and was commissioned in 2007. His assignments at sea include First Lieutenant and Assistant Operations Officer in USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41), Operations Officer in USS DEXTROUS (MCM 13) as well as Combat Systems and Weapons Officer in USS SAMPSON (DDG 102). In 2017, CDR Barry was awarded the Destroyer Squadron TWO THREE Surface Warfare Officer of the Year Award. CDR Barry has deployed at sea six times in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and the OCEANIA MARITIME SUPPORT INITIATIVE.
Ashore, CDR Barry served as a Warfare Tactics Instructor for Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Integrated Air and Missile Defense Division, Dahlgren Virginia, where he participated in six safe and successful Life Fire With a Purpose missile firings. He also served as Battle Watch Captain for the US Navy’s SIXTH FLEET and assisted in execution of Operation ALLIES REFUGE and Operation OCTAVE QUARTZ. His awards include three Battle Efficiency Ribbons, six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit awards.
