CDR Walter Point

Executive Officer, USS Montgomery (LCS 8)

01 December 2022 A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Cmdr. Walter Point graduated from Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.  He earned a Master of Science in Management from University of Maryland University College, completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I from the Naval War College, and is a graduate of the Anti-Submarine, Anti-Surface Warfare Tactics Weapons Instructor School. 

His sea duty assignments include USS Torguga (LSD 46) as the Electrical Officer forward deployed from Sasebo, Japan; USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) as the Damage Control Assistant; Chief Engineer on USS Russell (DDG 59); and as Material Officer at Commander Destroyer Squadron 21’s staff embarked on USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). During his sea tours, he deployed numerous times to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. 

Ashore, he served as an Associate Professor of Leadership at the United States Naval Academy and served his Warfare Tactics Instructor production tour as a member of Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center headquarters staff within the doctrine, tactics, and advanced concept branch as the Anti-Submarine, Anti-Surface Warfare lead. 

Point’s personal awards include Navy and Marine Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Achievement Medal (four awards) and multiple campaign, service, and unit awards.
