Command Master Chief M. Scott Welker is a native of Arizona. He attended Recruit Training Command (RTC) San Diego, California in 1990 and Navy Nuclear Weapons “A” School at Naval Air Station North Island, CA. He served on the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) as a Weapons Technician (WT), and departed the Navy in 1993. CMDCM Welker returned to active duty in 1999, attending Cryptologic Technician Interpretive “A” School in Monterey, CA, completing the Russian Basic Course. He also completed the Chechen and Somali Basic Courses as part of the Global War on Terror requirements in 2002 and 2006, respectively. While on sea duty, he served two tours as part of the Cryptologic Direct Support Element, two tours on the Advanced Language Response Team, and as the SEL for a Joint Chiefs of Staff Special Access Program. He deployed on six subsurface platforms, three surface combatants, three aerial platforms, served alongside peer-Agency teams, and with three Special Operations Task Force elements. Ashore, he served as the FIOC MD Battle Watch Supervisor, the Analysis and Production Cell LCPO, the FIOC MD DLCPO and served a tour as the CWMA-61 Senior Language Advisor. He was selected to the role of CTI Senior Detailer, 2019-2021, as well as the CTI Technical Advisor, 2021-2023. He was selected for the Command Master Chief program in 2023 and is a graduate of the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course. He graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 198 Brown) in 2016. He proudly serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader onboard the Relentless USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG 85). He holds an Associate of Arts (Russian) and a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities). His personal awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (7 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Intelligence Community Keystone Language Expertise Award, and various unit and campaign awards. He is qualified to wear Enlisted Surface Warfare and Enlisted Information Warfare devices.
