CAPT Craig Trent assumed command of Destroyer Squadron One in January 2024. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with distinction in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics (Honors).
At sea, CAPT Trent served as Strike Officer in USS STETHEM (DDG 63); Reactor Mechanical Division Officer in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73); Operations Officer in USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93); Reactor Training Assistant in USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72), and Executive Officer in USS PORTER (DDG 78). He fleeted up to command USS PORTER (DDG 78), homeported in Rota, Spain, from December 2018 to August 2020.
Ashore, CAPT Trent served at Naval Reactors (NAVSEA 08) as the Aircraft Carrier Nuclear Engineering Technical Assistant to the Deputy Director; at Joint Staff, J-8 Directorate as a Defense Resource Manager in the Program and Budget Analysis Division (PBAD); and at Navy Personnel Command as the Branch Head of Surface Nuclear Officer Programs and Placement (PERS-424/41N).
CAPT Trent’s additional education includes the Navy’s Nuclear Power Training Program, a Master’s in Business Administration (with Honors) in Finance from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, and qualification as a Joint Service Officer.
During his command tour of USS PORTER, the ship was awarded the Battle Efficiency “E” Award. He is a recipient of the Surface Navy Association’s 2009 Admiral Zumwalt Award for Inspirational Leadership and a finalist for the 2020 Vice Admiral Stockdale Leadership Award.
