CAPT Montplaisir is a native of Columbia, Missouri, enlisting in the United States Navy and reporting to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in 1994. He was commissioned in 2003 via the Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
His sea duty assignments include serving as an Undesignated Seaman and Storekeeper in USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74), Combat Information Center Officer and First Lieutenant in USS TICONDEROGA (CG 47), Auxiliaries Officer in USS DE WERT (FFG 45), Engineer Officer in USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80), Commanding Officer in USS SIROCCO (PC 6), Executive Officer in USS BARRY (DDG 52), and Commanding Officer in USS HOWARD (DDG 83).
His shore duty assignments include Naval Reserve Center St. Louis as an enlisted drilling reservist, and on the staffs of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. FIFTH Fleet, Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit Michigan, Destroyer Squadron FIFTEEN embarking in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73), U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and the Australian War College in the Defense and Strategic Studies Course.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, a Master’s in Business Administration from Columbia College, and a Master’s in National Security and Strategy (Leading Defense Capability and Policy) from the Australian War College.
His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal(2), the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal(4), the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal(3), the Good Conduct Medal, and various other unit and personal awards.
