CDR Sean Standen, a native of South Hadley, MA, graduated and received a commission from the United States Naval Academy in 2009. 


CDR Standen’s sea assignments include two division officer tours as Auxiliaries Officer in USS ROSS (DDG 71) where he deployed to the Fifth & Sixth Fleet Areas of Operation, and as Main Propulsion Assistant in USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) as a member of the Navy’s Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Test Ship.

He served his three year Department Head tour as Chief Engineer in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57), leading his team through the Basic, Integrated, and Advanced phases of training before he deployed to the Fifth & Sixth Fleet Areas of Operation.

Ashore, CDR Standen served as an instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS), now Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC), and additionally completed the Integrated Air & Missile Defense Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) course of instruction. Most recently, he served as an operational planner at Commander Task Force 64 (BMD/IAMD) in Naples, Italy coordinating with NATO and other foreign partners.

CDR Standen has completed a Master’s of Art in Diplomacy with a concentration in counter-terrorism from Norwich University, and completed JPME Phase I.

CDR Standen’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (1), Navy & Marine Corps

Commendation Medal (4), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), as well as multiple unit and service awards.
