Senior Chief Dane McVann, a native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, enlisted in the United States Navy on August 17, 2007. After completing basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center, Pensacola, FL, where he completed naval aircrew candidate school, aviation rescue swimmer school and airman apprenticeship training.
Upon graduation, he reported to his first operational command for duty as an undesignated airman apprentice aboard Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron Five, homeported in Jacksonville, FL., in February 2008. During his tour, he advanced to Gunnersmate (GM) 2nd Class, and was designated as an Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative. In January 2009, he transferred to Naval Special Warfare Unit Three in Manama, Bahrain. He supported SEAL teams as a technician, where he conducted missions in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In September 2015, he transferred to USS John Finn (DDG 113) he was selected to Chief Petty Officer and served as Weapons Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer (DLCPO). As a plank owner, Tactical Actions Officer (TAO), Surface Warfare Coordinator (SUWC), and Air Warfare Coordinator (AWC) he conducted operations in 7th Fleet AOR. In June 2021, he transferred to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron One as Anti-terrorism Tactical Watch Officer and the Command Training Team Leader, where he was selected to Senior Chief Petty Officer and served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
His shore assignments include Recruiter and Station LPO at Naval Recruiting District San Francisco, and Armory LCPO at NSW Logistic Supply Unit Two managing the largest Armory in the Navy.
Senior Chief McVann is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy. He has qualified Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare, and Aviation Warfare.
His decorations include Meritorious Service Medal (1), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6), and various unit and campaign awards.
