Commander Andrew Vann is a native of Tampa, FL. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2009 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture.
He has deployed five times to 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Fleet areas of operations, conducting both Strike Group and Independent Operations. He served as Ordnance Officer and Force Protection Officer aboard USS HAWES (FFG 53) and Fire Control Officer onboard USS ANZIO (CG 68), homeported in Norfolk, VA. His follow-on tour was onboard HMS DEFENDER (D 36), homeported in Portsmouth, UK. There he served as an Officer of the Watch while DEFENDER completed her initial training cycle and inaugural deployment.
He was a Department Head onboard USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) as Weapons and Combat Systems Officer While onboard LAKE CHAMPLAIN he was Air Defense Liaison Officer to Carrier Strike Group ONE, for a 7th Fleet deployment.
Ashore he attended the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth KS, and served as the Warfare Integration and Special Projects Office Lead at the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center.
He has various personal awards, campaign and unit decorations.
