Command Master Chief Chris Johnson is a native of Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He attended Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes in 2001; Sonar Technician Surface (STG) "A" and AN/SQS-53C "C " schools in San Diego, California.

At sea, he served aboard USS Decatur (DDG-73) as Combat Acoustics (CA) division Leading Petty Officer; as the Weapons Department Leading Chief Petty Officer aboard USS Porter(DDG-78), Command Master Chief aboard USS Freedom(LCS-1), USS Germantown (LSD-42) and USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52).

Ashore, he has served at Leading Chief Petty Officer for the AN/SQQ-89(V) Sonar Operations office and as a Sonar Supervisor Course instructor at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center in San Diego, California as well as a Lead Mentor/Assessor and Exercise Design Leading Chief Petty Officer at Undersea Warfighting Development Center, San Diego, California.

He was selected for the Command Senior Chief program in 2017 and is a graduate of the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course class 19020 and the Navy's Senior Enlisted Academy (Purple Group, Class 199) and is a member of the Navy Marksmanship Team.

His current assignment is Command Master Chief aboard Destroyer Squadron 21. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), and was awarded the Navy’s Distinguished Marksmanship Badge as well as other personal, unit and campaign awards.
