CAPT John P. Baggett

Deputy Commodore, Destroyer Squadron SEVEN (CDS 7)

20 August 2024 A native of Harrison, New Jersey, Captain Baggett graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he received his commission in the United States Navy via the NROTC program in 2001. His sea assignments include Strike Officer and Damage Control Assistant in USS HUE CITY (CG 66), Navigator in USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62) and Chief Engineer in USS BOONE (FFG 28). He served as Executive Officer in USS PREBLE (DDG 88) and USS RUSSELL (DDG 58). Captain Baggett commanded Patrol Coastal Crew JULIET in USS WHIRLWIND (PC 11) and USS SHAMAL (PC 13) where he twice deployed to C5F. CAPTAIN Baggett also had the honor of commanding USS PREBLE (DDG 88).

Ashore, Captain Baggett has served as the Surface Warfare Programming Analyst, Chief of Naval Operations Staff, Programming Division (N80) and as Operations Officer, Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific. CAPTAIN Baggett’s latest ashore assignment was as NAVEUR/AF/SIXTHFLT Current Operations Director and as SIXTHFLT Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations.

Captain Baggett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science conferred from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science Degree in Operations Research conferred from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

CAPTAIN Baggett assumed the role as Deputy Commodore for DESTROYER SQUADRON SEVEN in August 2024.
