CDR Benjamin J. Mills

Executive Officer, USS Savannah (LCS 28) Blue Crew

01 October 2024 Commander Benjamin J. Mills is a native of Chaska, MN. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 2008 earning a B.S. in Chemical Engineering as well as his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. He also holds a M.S. in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.

Commander Mills’ first sea tour, from 2008 to 2010, was as Strike Officer in USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60). After completing the nuclear power training pipeline, his next sea command was as Reactor Control Division Officer in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) from 2011 to 2014.

His department head tours included Weapons Officer from 2017 to 2018 in USS RUSSELL (DDG 60) and Reactor Electrical Assistant 2018 to 2020 in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). From 2020 to 2023, he served as the Material Readiness Officer (N4) at Destroyer Squadron Twenty-Two.

Ashore, from 2014 to 2016, Commander Mills was assigned to Naval Reactors at the Washington Navy Yard as a Fleet Engineer. In 2023, he served as the Executive Officer at Mariner Skills Training Center, Atlantic.

Commander Mills is currently the Executive Officer aboard USS Savannah (LCS 28) - Blue.

Commander Mills’ decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various campaign and unit awards
