CAPT David Wagenborg

Chief of Staff, Commander, Carrier Strike Group 11 (CCSG 11)

24 October 2024 A native of Glenolden, PA a suburb of Philadelphia, Captain David Wagenborg graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1999. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Cryptologic Technician, Collection. He graduated from A school and completed Morse Code School before being accepted to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned OCT 2001.

Afloat, CAPT Wagenborg completed his division officer tours aboard USS BATAAN (LHD 5) as the 2nd Division Officer and USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as the Navigator.  As a Department Head he served as the Weapons Officer and fleeted up to the Combat Systems Officer aboard USS O’KANE (DDG 77).  He then reported to Commander Carrier Strike Group THREE for duties as Assistant Surface Ops and Readiness Officer.  He served as the Executive Officer for USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) and the Commanding Officer onboard Pre-Commission Unit CARL M. LEVIN (DDG 120) and subsequently USS HOPPER (DDG 70).

Ashore, CAPT Wagenborg received a Master of Science in Information Systems and Operations at the Naval Postgraduate School and completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.  He served on the Commander Naval Surface Forces, Pacific staff as the lead inspector for C5I, Operations and Navigation on the TYCOM Material Inspection Team.  He also studied in residence at the Naval War College where he completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase II, earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies and a Certificate in Leadership and Ethics. His most recent assignment was as the Deputy Fleet Operations Officer and Director of Integrated Air and Missile Defense for Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet.  

He currently serves as the Chief of Staff for Commander Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN. 

CAPT Wagenborg’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Gold Stars) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Stars) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
