COMMAND MASTER CHIEF, DESTROYER SQUADRON TWO THREE (CDS 23)

25 October 2024 Command Master Chief Jackey Smith, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, enlisted in the United States Navy in April 2000. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, she attended Seaman Apprenticeship School before reporting to her ultimate duty station.

In August 2000, she reported onboard USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80) in Mayport, Florida where she served in Deck Department before converting to the rating of Journalist.

She later reported to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, working at the base newspaper. She was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class in 2002.

In November 2002, she reported to USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) in Little Creek, Virginia, where she earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare qualification. In 2004, she transferred to Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia, where she was promoted to Petty Officer First Class.

At the beginning of 2006, she reported to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Detachment Combat Camera Norfolk where she attended both Survival, Evade, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) and Desert Survival (DEST) Training before deploying to Iraq and Bahrain. She advanced to Chief Petty Officer in September 2008 and transferred to the Defense Information School, where she earned her Master Training Specialist qualification.

In November 2012, she transferred to the Office of the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON), where she served as the 13th MCPON’s Public Affairs Officer. In 2016, she transferred to Navy Public Affairs Support Element West and deployed onboard USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) in support of Pacific Partnership 2018. She earned her Enlisted Aviation Warfare qualification and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer while deployed.

She transferred to Navy Region Hawaii in July 2019 and was selected to serve as the U.S. Pacific Fleet Master Chief’s Executive Assistant in August 2020. She applied for and was accepted into the Command Senior Enlisted Leader program in 2021.

She reported to USS WILLIAM P. LAWRENCE (DDG 110) in November 2021 and was promoted to Master Chief. She reported to COMDESRON 23, San Diego, California.

She is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, CMC/COB course and holds an A.A. in Communications. Her personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (7 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
