CDR Ryan Griffith

Executive Officer, USS CANBERRA (LCS 30) BLUE CREW

21 November 2024 Commander Ryan Griffith is a native of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. He attended the United States Naval Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 2009.

His sea tours include Main Propulsion Division Officer aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) and USS Essex (LHD 2) and Force Protection Officer aboard USS Cape St George (CG 71). He served his Department Head tours as Combat Systems Officer and fleeted up to Operations Officer aboard USS Montgomery (LCS 8). He was the first operational LCS deployer and has completed four Seventh Fleet deployments. Significant deployment events included Oceania Maritime Security Initiative, Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Indonesia, Maritime Training Activity Malaysia, and ASEAN-U.S. Maritime Exercise Thailand.

Ashore, Commander Griffith served two tours in Surface Warfare Schools Command Newport in the Command at Sea and Maritime Warfare directorates. Recently graduating from the Naval War College, he holds a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.

His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), the Battle Effectiveness Award (two awards), and various unit awards.
