Commander Nicholas Hurley is a native of Saratoga Springs, NY. He graduated from Keuka College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies while completing his Phase I Joint Professional Military Education from the U.S. Naval War College.
CDR Hurley enlisted in the US Navy in January 2005 as a Nuclear Electrician’s Mate. Upon completion of his training, he received orders to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) where he qualified Senior-In-Rate and Load Dispatcher. He was accepted to Officer Candidate School (OCS) and earned his commission in 2010.
At sea, CDR Hurley served as First Lieutenant aboard USS SAMPSON (DDG 102); Damage Control Assistant aboard USS MILIUS (DDG 69); Chief Engineer aboard USS DECATUR (DDG 73); and N1 Assistant Chief of Staff at Carrier Strike Group ONE (CSG-1).
Ashore, he served as a Gas Turbine Inspector and Gas Generator Inspector at Engineering Assessments Pacific (EAP) and attended the U.S. Naval War College.
He reported to USS OAKLAND (LCS 24) as the Executive Officer in January 2025.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), Good Conduct Medal, as well as various personal and unit awards.
