CDR Draonne Johnson

Executive Officer, USS John Finn (DDG 113)

02 December 2024 CDR Dre Johnson is a native of Georgia. A son of an enlisted U.S. Navy Sailor, he attended Ernest J. King High School in Sasebo, Japan. He was commissioned in 2009 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He also attended Villanova University, receiving a Master of Public Policy degree. 

He Commanded USS MONSOON (PC 4), forward deployed in the Fifth Fleet, conducting multiple patrols in support of Task Force FIVE FIVE.  

Previous sea tours include his first at sea assignment onboard USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) where he served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Main Propulsion Officer. His second sea tour was onboard USS GEORGE HW BUSH (CVN 77) as the Auxiliaries Officer. He returned to sea as the Chief Engineer onboard USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96). His next tour was onboard USS PRINCETON (CG 59), assigned as the Engineer Officer, where he completed a NIMITZ Strike Group Deployment to the 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet Areas of Operations 

His most recent ashore assignment was as Operations Officer of Task Force FIVE NINE, forward deployed to 5th Fleet, developing Manned-Unmanned Teaming, Artificial Intelligence, and Innovation.  

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
