Upon completion of his tour, he received follow-on orders to AEGIS Training and Readiness Center (ATRC) in Dahlgren, VA as an instructor in the Officer Training department for the CO, XO, CSO, and Maritime Ballistic Missile Defense (MBMD) courses for each of the AEGIS baselines. He earned his Master Training Specialist designation and in September 2010 was advanced to Chief Petty Officer.
In January of 2012 Master Chief Monahan qualified as an Air Intercept Controller Supervisor (AICS) in transit to his next command the USS Lake Erie CG 70 in Pearl Harbor, HI. He served as OI division LCPO, AICS, Ballistic Missile Defense Watch Officer, and Anti-Air Warfare Coordinator during several BMD Flight Test Missions and a 7th FLEET deployment. In March of 2015, he transferred to USS Chung-Hoon DDG 93 to serve as AICS and Operations Department LCPO where he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. While onboard he qualified as a Tactical Action Officer where he deployed to both 5th and 7th FLEET in support of multiple regional stability operations.
Master Chief Monahan reported to Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific in October 2019 and filled roles as the N7 Director of Training and later on as N3 Operations Scheduler. From April to October of 2021 he served onboard the USS William P. Lawrence DDG 110 as the acting Command Master Chief, filling a critical gapped billet.
Master Chief Monahan returned to ATG, screened, and was selected for conversion to the Command Master Chief program in March 2022. He was assigned to the USS Wayne E. Meyer DDG 108
from September 2022 to October 2024 where he deployed to the 7th FLEET AOR. He currently serves as the CMC for Destroyer Squadron THREE ONE based in Pearl Harbor, HI.
Master Chief Monahan is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, CMC/COB, and Advanced CMC course. He holds the Enlisted Surface Warfare and Air Warfare Specialist designations. He has his Associate’s Degree in Science and his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and several campaign medals and ribbons.
