Master Chief McGill is a native of Charlotte, NC and a 1994 graduate of East Clarendon High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1995 and completed Basic Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL. He graduated in August 1995 from Operations Specialist "A" school in Dam Neck, VA.

His sea duty assignments include USS SPRUANCE (DD 963) Mayport, FL USS DOYLE (FFG 39) Mayport, FL and USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) Yokosuka Japan where he qualified as Tactical Action Officer and Officer of the deck underway. Shore duty assignments were Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville FL, Navy Recruiting District Raleigh, NC and Afloat Training Group Western Pacific where he served as the Ballistic Missile Defense, Surface and Air Warfare Team Lead before assuming the duties as the Senior Enlisted Leader.

Master Chief McGill was accepted for the Command Master Chief (CMC) program in 2016 and assumed the duties as Command Master Chief of USS CURTIS WILBUR, Yokosuka Japan where he conducted various patrols in the 7th Fleet AOR. From September 2020 to October 2022 he served as the Command Master Chief of USS PORT ROYAL conducting back to back deployments to C7F and C5F in 2021 and 2022 in which PORT ROYAL was awarded the 2021 Battle “E” award. He assumed duties as the first Command Master Chief of DESERON 31 on October 2022. During his tenure at DESRON 31, Command Master Chief served as the PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP 2023 Mission Command Master Chief over seeing employment of 1500 joint and multi-national service members, enhancing regional interoperability and disaster response in Indo-Pacific. From November 2023 to July 2024, Command Master Chief assumed the gapped role onboard USS MICHAEL MURPHY where he completed a successful Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical , Group Sail and a Composite Training Unit Exercise with Carrier Strike Group Three. He reported to Commander, Carrier Strike Group 11 on December 2024.

He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI, Class 195 (Orange) and the CMC/COB Course Class 179. Master Chief McGill holds qualification as a Master of Training Specialist, Afloat Training Specialist, a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Management and Technology as well as Command, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet 2018 Navy and Marines Association Leadership Award winner.

 

His decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eleven), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various other unit, campaign and personal awards.
