CDR Kevin K. Mutai

Executive Officer, USS Somerset (LPD 25)

14 February 2025 A native of Austin, Texas, Commander Kevin Mutai graduated from Baylor University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing.  In 2009, he earned his Master of Education degree in Sports Management from Baylor University.  

His division officer tours were aboard USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99) as the Strike Officer in Mayport, FL, and aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as the OI Division Officer in San Diego, CA. As a department head he served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer aboard USS ARDENT (MCM 12), a role he served in until her decommissioning. He served as Operation Officer and Senior Watch Officer aboard USS ZUMWALT (DDG 1000). 

Ashore, CDR Mutai served as an Operational Lead at LCS Squadron ONE, Task Force IAMD Planner and Battle Watch Captain on the staff of Commander, U.S. SEVENTH Fleet. He also served as Assistant Operations Officer for Task Force SIX THREE and Flag Aide to Commander, U.S. SIXTH Fleet. His most recent assignments were Flag Aide and Deputy Executive Assistant to Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet and resides in San Diego, CA.
