Captain David. A. Huljack is a native of Stockton, NJ and graduated from the US Naval Academy in 2000 with a degree in History. He earned a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI in 2006.

Afloat, Huljack served aboard USS FORD (FFG 54), USS COWPENS (CG 63), USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56) and USS VELLA GULF (CG 72). He commanded the forward-deployed destroyer USS BARRY (DDG 52), making the homeport shift from Norfolk, VA to Yokosuka, Japan and leading the ship through numerous multilateral exercises and operations throughout the western Pacific Ocean, culminating in operational Ballistic Missile Defense tasking.

Ashore, he served as a Company Officer at the Naval Academy Preparatory School, an Integrated Air and Missile Defense instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School, the Deputy Director for Professional Development at the US Naval Academy, and the Deputy Director for Surface Warfare Officer Distribution (PERS-41) at the Navy Personnel Command. Huljack also served as the Chief of Staff, Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate (J-5), on the Joint Staff. He served as the Deputy Commodore of Destroyer Squadron 15 from August 2023 to April 2025.

Huljack is currently the Commodore of Destroyer Squadron 15.
