Commander Jason “Yoshi” Miyoshi is a native of Torrance, California, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After commissioning he reported for flight training and earned his wings in 2010.
CDR Miyoshi reported to the Scorpions of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 49 on Naval Air Station North Island, California in 2011. He served as a Detachment Assistant Operations Officer, Detachment Maintenance Officer, and Quality Assurance Officer and deployed aboard USS HALSEY (DDG 97) and USS PREBLE (DDG 88) in support of operations in FIFTH FLEET, SEVENTH FLEET, and CTF-151.
CDR Miyoshi subsequently reported as an FRS instructor to the Seahawks of HSM-41 in 2014, where he served as a Schedules Officer, Ground Safety Officer, and Quality Assurance Officer where he coordinated the successful Safe for Flight certification during HSM-79’s squadron stand-up. During his tour, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School with an Executive Masters in Business Administration.
In 2017 he reported to the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in Naval Station Bremerton, Washington, where he served as a “Shooter”, V-4 Division Officer, and Assistant Weapons Officer in support of Carrier Air Wing ELEVEN during OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE.
CDR Miyoshi subsequently reported to the Warlords of HSM-51 on Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan in 2018 where he served as Maintenance Officer, Training Officer, and Detachment ONE Officer in Charge (OIC). As 51.1 OIC, he deployed on the USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG 85) in support of the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, CTF-70, and DESRON 15.
In 2021 he reported to Headquarters, U.S. European Command (USEUCOM), Stuttgart, Germany. He served in the J8, Theater Posture and Programming Division, responsible for the resourcing of theater requirements and additionally coordinated several Ukraine Supplemental requests following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
CDR Miyoshi departed USEUCOM in 2023 and reported as Executive Officer for Tactical Air Control Squadron (TACRON) 11 on Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and other personal, unit and campaign awards. CDR Miyoshi has accumulated over 2,000 mishap free flight hours.
