Lieutenant Commander Joshua Johnson is a native of San Angelo, Texas, and reported to Great Lakes for boot camp in February of 2000.  He received his commission through the Navy Limited Duty Officer program and was designated a naval intelligence officer in October 2011.  Johnson is a 2016 graduate of American Military University and earned his bachelor’s degree in Intelligence Studies, focusing on Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflicts.  He earned a master’s in Military Studies from the U.S. Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff College, Quantico, Virginia.  While there, he participated in the Gray Scholars Program.

As an enlisted Intelligence Specialist, his operational tours included USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67), U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, and Naval Special Warfare Group ONE, deploying with SEAL Team SEVEN and SEAL Team THREE as the platoon Intelligence Officer and High-Value Individual (HVI) targeting lead.  During these tours, he supported Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom Afghanistan.

As an Intelligence Officer, Johnson’s operational tours include Assistant Intelligence Officer and Senior Intelligence Watch Officer at Amphibious Squadron FIVE; Naval Special Warfare Group ONE, deploying to Joint Special Operations Task Force – Arabian Peninsula as the Deputy Intelligence Officer (DJ2) and Targeting Officer, subsequently hand-selected as the Senior Intelligence Officer (J2) for Special Operations Joint Task Force – Iraq, which surged into Iraq June 2014, becoming the Combined Forces Special Operations Component Command senior J2 in Iraq; and DJ2 for Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Iraq; Assistant Ship’s Intelligence Officer and Intelligence Department Principal Assistant onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71).  During his operational tours, he supported Counter Piracy Operations in the GOA and Operations Inherent Resolve and Freedom’s Sentinel.

His ashore assignments include Imagery Interpretation “C” School Instructor at Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center; Course Manager for East and West Coast CSG/ARG Information Warfare Team Trainers at Information Warfare Training Command San Diego; and the N2/39 Targets Department Head and Fleet Chief of Targets at Commander, U.S. THIRD Fleet Maritime Operations Center (MOC).

LCDR Johnson’s awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (5), Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon (2), Good Conduct Medals (5), and various other service, campaign, and unit awards.
