CDR Robert S. Schmidt

Commanding Officer, USS SAVANNAH (LCS 28) GOLD CREW

23 May 2025 CDR Schmidt, a native of Swanton, Ohio, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) in 2007. He earned a Master of Professional Studies in Leadership, Education and Development from the University of Maryland, College Park.

His sea tours were aboard USS CLEVELAND (LPD 7), as the First Division Officer and USS HIGGINS (DDG 76), as the Fire Control Officer (FCO) and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Officer, USS O’KANE (DDG 77), as the Weapons and Combat Systems Officer, as the Executive Officer aboard USS SAVANNAH (LCS 28) BLUE and concurrently serves as the Commanding Officer aboard USS SAVANNAH (LCS 28) BLUE.

CDR Schmidt has deployed six times and operated in every Fleet area of operations. Ashore, he served as the 28th Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy, the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Plans Officer for Commander, Task Force SIX FOUR, located in Naples, Italy and as the Advanced Division Officer Training (N76) Assistant Director at the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, Rhode Island.
