A native of Wilmington, Massachusetts, he enlisted in the Navy December 2001, in the Bachelor Degree Completion Program and was commissioned an Ensign through Officer Candidate School in October 2005 after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach FL. He then reported to Pensacola, Florida for flight training and was reassigned to the Navy Reserve in October 2006.

In July 2007, he reported to Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Group as a member of Customs BN Tango, where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer. Upon his return from Kuwait in 2008, he was selected as a Full Time Support Surface Warfare Officer and was detailed to USS San Jacinto as the Electrical Officer and he served as the Main Propulsion Division Officer among other assignments. After a successful counter piracy deployment, he was selected to NOSC Command and reported to NOSC Bangor Maine in 2012.

He served as the Chief Engineer onboard USS Donald A. Gary (FFG-51) for its final counter-narcotics deployment, where he was instrumental in the capture of 13 tons of elicit substances. He followed his successful Chief Engineer tour with a tour at Engineering Assessments Pacific as the Damage Control Deputy.

He served as the Operational Support Officer for Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific. Overseeing 30 units and over 1300 billets across 13 states. He reported to USS BOXER (LHD-4) in December 2020 and served as the Damage Control Assistant throughout a challenging maintenance period and certification phase.

CDR Campbell assumed command of Navy Reserve Center Lemoore in October 2022. In September 2024, he was recalled to Active Component and will serve as the Executive Officer of Engineering Assessments Pacific.

Commander Campbell’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal (two Awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (four Awards) and other campaign and unit awards. He is a graduate of the Naval War College with a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies degree.
