Command Master Chief (SW) Jonathan M. Genica, native of Melrose Massachusetts, joined the Navy on September 25, 2001. In December 2001, he completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, and received orders to Damage Controlman “A” School.

He has served in a myriad of sea and shore assignments, including USS Jarrett (FFG 33), USS Milius (DDG 69), USS Makin Island (LHD 8), and Assault Craft Unit FIVE. His shore duty assignments include tours at Navy Recruiting District Denver in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Afloat Training Group San Diego, California, Assault Craft Unit FIVE in Camp Pendleton, California, and Military Entrance Processing Station Syracuse New York.

Since his selection to the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) program in 2024, he had the privilege of serving as the Syracuse New York Military Entrance Processing Station Senior Enlisted Advisor. Following his selection to Command Master Chief Petty Officer in 2025 he has served as the Command Master Chief aboard USS O’Kane (DDG 77) since July 2025.

Master Chief Genica is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 262/Orange) and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course. He is authorized to wear Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, and has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), and various campaign and service ribbons.
