Lieutenant Commander Solomon Lu, raised in a Navy family, is a graduate of Boardman High School in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended the United States Naval Academy, earning his commission and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 2011.

Afloat, Lieutenant Commander Lu’s division officer assignments were aboard USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) where he served as the Communications Officer and subsequently as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer. During this tour, the ship completed a Western Pacific ballistic missile defense deployment, an AEGIS Baseline 9C combat systems upgrade, and a basing shift to Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan in Yokosuka. His department head assignments were aboard USS OAKLAND (LCS 24) BLUE CREW where he served initially as the plankowner Combat Systems Officer and later as the Operations Officer during the ship's maiden Western Pacific deployment.

Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Lu earned a Master of Science in Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School via distance learning in 2018. He was assigned to the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) from 2016 to 2018. While at SMWDC, he completed the Anti-Submarine/Surface Warfare (ASW/SUW) Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) course and served as an instructor and doctrine and tactics developer. He later served as a Strategic Planner at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, N7 Warfighting Integration Directorate (OPNAV N74) from 2023 to 2024. Following that tour, he served as the Flag Aide to the Naval Inspector General from 2024 to 2025.

He reported to USS SANTA BARBARA (LCS 32) GOLD CREW as the Executive Officer in November 2025.

Lieutenant Commander Lu’s personal achievements include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Stars), and multiple unit and service awards.
