LCDR Takeru Tajiri

Executive Officer, USS Savannah (LCS 28)

31 December 2025 Lieutenant Commander Takeru Tajiri is a native of Cary, North Carolina, and currently resides in San Diego, California. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 2011.

His initial sea tour was as a Deck Officer aboard USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) from 2011 to 2013, where he completed a WESTPAC deployment in 2012 and took part in Pacific Partnership 2013. He then reported to LCS Crew 104, serving as Main Propulsion Assistant aboard USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) and USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) from 2013 to 2015. While with LCS Crew 104, he supported Fort Worth’s maiden deployment to Singapore in 2014 and Milwaukee’s post-commissioning sail-around from Marinette, Wisconsin to the Atlantic seaboard in 2015.

From 2015 to 2017, Lieutenant Commander Tajiri served ashore at the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) Headquarters as an Amphibious Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI), helping to establish warfighting standards across the fleet. He then reported to USS Boxer (LHD 4), where he served as Combat Systems Officer and later as Plans and Tactics Officer from 2018 to 2020, including a WESTPAC deployment.

Following his tour aboard Boxer, he served as First Lieutenant aboard USS America (LHA 6) from 2021 to 2023, conducting multiple patrols in the South China Sea. From 2023 to 2025, he served as an Operations Analyst on the Chief of Naval Operations’ staff (OPNAV N81), contributing to long-range fleet planning and resource assessment.

Lieutenant Commander Tajiri is currently assigned as Executive Officer of USS Savannah (LCS 28), homeported in San Diego, California.

His personal awards include four Navy Commendation Medals and two Navy Achievement Medals, in addition to various unit and campaign awards.
