Leaders to Sea Description:
The Leaders to Sea program helps the Navy tell its story to our community leaders. Ship embarkations provide unique opportunities to foster citizen awareness and understanding for the role, mission and need for the Navy in general, and the surface combatant in particular. They also highlight the training required to keep our forces ready for any contingency.
These one-day at-sea adventures generally consist of an early morning helicopter flight or small boat transfer to a U.S. Navy ship off the coast of Southern California. On board, guests receive a thorough shipboard tour including various demonstrations, and an enjoyable lunch. Guests are returned to San Diego at approximately 4 p.m.

This program is designed for people who are active and influential in business, government or the community, as well as people who are active communicators and opinion leaders. Participants include presidents or chief executive officers of corporations and businesses; presidents/deans of colleges; influential civic and community leaders, government officials, news media owners/publishers; and leaders of significant, broad-based organizations who have not had prior exposure to Naval surface operations. Contact our Community Outreach Director, Ms. Julie Ripley at julie.a.ripley.civ@us.navy.mil or (619) 437-2735 for more information. Please use the google form to fill out a nomination Request.

Leaders to Sea Expectations:
Physical Exertion: There are no elevators for moving people on a warship. Guests must be fully ambulatory and able to climb multiple stories of stairs in order to navigate the ship. Navy vessels are physically demanding work locations and are designed for the typical age and physiological characteristics of active duty Sailors and Officers. There are no ADA facilities on U.S. Navy ships.

Attire: Civilian guests should dress casually, wearing comfortable clothing – jeans or slacks, long-sleeved shirts, and comfortable walking shoes. Shoes with low, rubberized soles are suggested. A ship is an industrial environment with steep stairways called ladders; high-heels, open-toed shoes, sandals (including Crocs), skirts, and dresses are not permitted. Do not wear dinner jackets or ties. Also avoid necklaces that can get caught or anything else that may impact the ability to climb steep stairs and ladders with both hands. Participants wearing revealing or inappropriate clothing will not be provided a tour.

Cost: Guests can expect to pay approximately $60.00 - $100.00 for their embark. This price includes the cost of meals throughout the day as well as memorabilia provided by the ship. Guests are expected to bring exact cash the day of their embark. Checks and credit cards are not accepted.
