In December 1992, he reported for duty to the USS CAPE COD (AD-43) at San Diego, CA where he worked in the S-1 Stock Control Material Division and was advanced to Petty Officer Second Class. In September 1995, Master Chief Diego reported to the USS John Young (DD-973). While aboard, he was selected for the Enlisted Education Advancement Program.
In September 1996, he reported to the Fleet Training Center at San Diego, CA to attend the Enlisted Education Advancement Program. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from National University at San Diego, CA. In December 1998, he reported to the USS NIAGARA FALLS (ATF-3) at San Diego, CA as the Underway Replenishment Coordinator. During his tour, he was advanced to Petty Officer First Class. In January 2000, he reported to the Naval Air Facility at El Centro, CA. He served as the Leading Petty Officer for the Supply Department. During his tour, he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer.
Master Chief Diego returned to sea duty in 2003 aboard the USS RAVEN (HMC-61). He completed one deployment as the Supply Deparment Leading Chief Petty Officer in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In June 2004, he reported to the USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD-49) at Sasebo, Japan. He served as the Supply Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer, and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
In October 2007, he reported to Twentynine Palms Naval Hospital at Twentynine Palms, CA. He served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Administration Department. While he was there, he completed a successful Individual Augmentee tour to Afghanistan. In February 2011, he reported to Camp Eggers, Afghanistan for a GSA forward deployed tour. He served as the Senior Enlisted advisor for the Afghanistan National Police Division during the NATO training mission combined security transition. During his tour, he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. In October 2011, he reported to the USS PELELIU (LHA-5), where he served as the Supply Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer. He reported aboard NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego's Code 430 in May 2014, where he served as Code 430 Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer and as Acting Command Master Chief.
In March 2017, he reported to the USS COMSTOCK (LSD-45) at San Diego, CA to assume duties as Command Master Chief. In December 2017, he reported to Commander Naval Surface Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet (COMNAVSURFPAC) at Naval Base Coronado, CA. In June 2018, he reported to the USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG-56) to assume duties as Command Master Chief, where he is currently serving. Command Master Chief Diego is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and holds a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership.
His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
