CDR Russell Caldwell, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, is a graduate of the University of Kansas in Political Science and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program. He subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in Information Operation from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Afloat assignments include USS THACH (FFG 43), USS GARY (FFG 51), and USS COWPENS (CG 63) while forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan; Engineering Officer in USS O’KANE (DDG 77) and USS CHOSIN (CG 65) and most recently served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS ROSS (DDG 71) forward deployed to Rota, Spain. Ashore, CDR Caldwell has served on the Strategy and Policy Division in OPNAV (N51) and Deputy Executive Assistant to Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans and Strategy (N3/N5). Additionally, he served as the Joint Fires Officer for Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), U.S. 5th Fleet (C5F) and most recently as Executive Assistant for Commander Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center in San Diego, California.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit awards.
