Commander Jeremy L. Carlson is a native of Shafer, Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1999 as an AEGIS Fire Controlman and received his commission through Officer Candidate School in 2001. He holds a Masters of Arts in Management, specializing in Organizational Leadership through National University, and a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies, specializing in Naval Strategy through the United States Naval War College.

Ashore, Commander Carlson was assigned to the University of New Mexico, Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science.  He served in Bahrain on the staff of Naval Central Command Fifth Fleet as the Deputy Director, Integrated Air and Missile Defense. Additionally, he supported United States Strategic Command, Joint Functional Component Command Integrated Missile Defense as Integrated Missile Defense Watch Commander and Cyber Operations Planner.

Afloat, Commander Carlson served his Division Officer tours onboard USS RODNEY M. DAVIS (FFG 60) as Damage Control Assistant and onboard USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73) as Fire Control Officer. As a Division Officer he deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom to the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Gulf.  

As a Department Head he served onboard USS LASSEN (DDG 82) as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer operating as part of Forward Deployed Naval Forces at Yokosuka, Japan. His most recent assignment was Executive Officer onboard USS BENFOLD (DDG 65). 

Commander Carlson’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and service awards.
