CDR Shane Dennis

Past Commanding Officer, USS Chafee (DDG 90)

CDR Shane Dennis is from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of Utah where he received his commission through the NROTC program.

A career surface warfare officer, he has deployed across the globe in cruiser, amphibious assault, and mine countermeasure ships. His previous afloat assignments include Assistant First Lieutenant and Electrical Officer in USS Essex (LHD 2), Main Propulsion Assistant in USS Gettysburg (CG 64). Engineer Officer in USS Patriot (MCM 7), selected for early command in 2013 he served as Executive Officer in USS Defender (MCM 2) and Commanding Officer in USS Chief (MCM 14). His most recent assignment was in USS Port Royal (CG 73) as Executive Officer.

Ashore, Dennis served as Officer-in-Charge of a Military Transition Team supporting the 8th Iraqi Army Division in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq and as the Knowledge Management Branch Chief at Headquarters United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College & Maritime Advanced Warfighting School resident program where he earned a Masters Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies.

His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and other personal, service, unit and campaign awards.
