Command Master Chief, USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112)

10 May 2019 Command Master Chief Jose J. Ramiro, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico enlisted in the U.S. NAVY in June 1996. He enlisted as an Airman Recruit and completed Basic Recruit Training and Airman Apprentice Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. 
 
Upon completion of his first overseas deployment onboard the USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) he reported to OS “A” School in Dam Neck, VA. He then reported for duty onboard the USS DOYLE (FFG 39) as an Operations Specialist where he served as VBSS Team Member and completed a successful Counter Narcotics Deployment.  
 Following his time onboard FFG 39 he reported for training at the Law Enforcement Specialist / Master-At-Arms “A” School and was selected as Distinguished Graduate receiving orders to Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. There, he qualified as Watch Commander, designated as the Security Response Team (SRT) Leader, and was selected for Protective Service Detail of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command, U.S. 4th Fleet. During this highly successful tour he was selected as the Training Officer during the closeout of Naval Station Roosevelt Roads and responsible for the training and qualification of 100 Department of Defense Law Enforcement Officers.  Master Chief Petty Officer Ramiro separated from the U.S. Navy and assumed duties as Director of Security, Safety and Loss Prevention for Hilton Hotels Corp. After marrying Mrs. Madeline Ramiro Rosa, Master Chief Ramiro returned to the active Naval Service. 
 
Upon his return to active duty in March 2006, he checked onboard USS MCINERNEY (FFG 8) where he assumed duties as OI Division Leading Petty Officer and obtained the qualification of Anti Surface/Sub-Surface Tactical Air Controller. Additionally, he earned the position of Vessel Board Search & Seizure (VBSS) Boarding Officer and Spanish linguist, and was selected by the U.S. Coast Guard to conduct three successful deployments, resulting in the first-ever capture of a Self-Propelled Semi-Submersible (SPSS) watercraft and the first successful mission of the MQ-8 Fire Scout Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).   
 Following his time onboard FFG 8, he received orders to Commander Naval Forces Europe, Commander Naval Forces Africa, Commander Sixth Fleet, Naples, Italy, where he served as the Maritime Operations Leading Chief Petty Officer.  During this time, he deployed numerous times in the EUCOM and AFRICOM AOR as a Maritime Domain Awareness trainer and onboard the USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) as the JOC NCOIC during operation ODYSSEY DAWN. Master Chief Ramiro subsequently transferred to Naval Special Warfare Command, SEAL Team THREE.
 
As SEAL Team THREE TECH Support Senior Enlisted Leader and Joint Operations Intelligence Center (JIOC) Director, he led his team to numerous successful tours in the U.S. Central Command AOR. During his last tour, Master Chief Ramiro served as the Combat Support Element and J3 Senior Enlisted Leader for the Special Operations Task Force-Iraq (SOTF-I).  
 As a CMC, Master Chief Ramiro served as USS BILLINGS (LCS 15) Pre-Com Detachment and later onboard the USS Detroit (LCS 7) during the Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) of the Surface-to-Surface Missile (SSM) and Gun Mission Module (GMM).  Additionally, he was selected to participate in the first Navy Week in Puerto Rico as the Senior Enlisted Leader engaging in numerous meetings with local leaders advocating for the Navy’s local efforts after Hurricane Irma and Maria.
 
Command Master Chief Ramiro reported onboard the Michael Murphy on May 5th, 2019 quickly deploying to Central and South America conducting a successful UNITAS and Team Work South deployment. During this deployment Michael Murphy conducted a rescue operation of 5 Peruvian fishermen and the ship’s first maritime interdiction of a Low Profile Go Fast Vessel (LPGFV). 
 Master Chief Ramiro is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations University Senior Enlisted Academy, the U.S.  Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, and the Command Master Chief /Chief of the Boat course.  Additionally, he has completed the JSOU Special Operations Planning course, Maritime Security Intelligence Officer course, and numerous other courses.  Master Chief Ramiro is currently enrolled under Norwich University's Bachelor of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis (SSDA) program.
 
Master Chief Ramiro’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), Army Commendation Medal (2), Voluntary Service Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation for Operational Service and the Coast Guard Special Operation Service Ribbon, and various unit and campaign awards.
