A native of Glenolden, PA a suburb of Philadelphia, Commander David Wagenborg graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1999. He then enlisted in the US Navy as a Cryptologic Technician, Collection. He graduated from A school and completed Morse Code School before being accepted to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned OCT 2001.
Afloat, CDR Wagenborg completed his division officer tours aboard USS BATAAN (LHD 5) as the 2nd Division Officer and USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as the Navigator. As a Department Head he served as the Weapons Officer and fleeted up to the Combat Systems Officer aboard USS O’KANE (DDG 77).
He then reported to Commander Carrier Strike Group THREE as Assistant Surface Ops and Readiness Officer. His last sea tour was the Executive Officer for USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53).
Ashore, CDR Wagenborg received a Master of Science degree in Information Systems and Operations at the Naval Postgraduate School and completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I. He served on the Commander Naval Surface Forces, Pacific staff as the lead inspector for C5I, Operations and Navigation on the TYCOM Material Inspection Team. His last shore duty assignment was at the Naval War College where he completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase II, earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and a Certificate in Leadership and Ethics.
CDR Wagenborg’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Gold Stars) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Stars) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
CDR Wagenborg currently serves as the Commanding Officer of PCU CARL M. LEVIN (DDG 120).
