Command Master Chief Benjamin L. Washington is a native of Rochester, New York. He enlisted in March 1997.

Washington attended Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois and Operations Specialist ‘A’ school in Dam Neck, Virginia.  His first assignment was pre-commissioning unit DECATUR DDG 73. His other assignments include USS THACH (FFG 43); USS HIGGINS (DDG 76); USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52); USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6); USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52); USS WAYNE E. MEYER (DDG 108); Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Center, Point Loma Annex and Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment, San Diego.
 
Washington is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 202 Gold) and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 174) in Newport, RI and holds an Associate in General Science from National University. 
 
Upon completion of his USS WAYNE E. MEYER (DDG 108) tour, he returned to USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52) as Command Master Chief homeported in San Diego, Ca.

Master Chief Washington’s personal awards include a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Enlisted Surface and Aviation Warfare Insignias and numerous campaign awards.
